Jewish Learning Fellowship (JLF)
The Jewish Learning Fellowship (more commonly referred to as JLF), is offered every quarter. Once a week, over dinner, Jewish students come together to discuss big ideas and questions through the lens of Jewish texts. (In this case, text is anything from Torah and Talmud to Sex and the City clips to contemporary research!) There’s no homework or prior knowledge of any Jewish text required, and you’ll earn $250 at the end of the quarter for your time. Fall Quarter’s topic is Life’s Big Questions; Winter Quarter’s topic is Sex, Love, and Relationships; and Spring Quarter’s theme is Pursuing Justice. Interested in applying? Keep an eye out in your inbox for applications every quarter, or talk to a Hillel staff member about participating!
Scholars in Residence
Hillel is fortunate to host visiting scholars from around the world, who share their passions, research, and life journeys with our students. Often staying over Shabbat, our students have the opportunity to see these luminaries as their full Jewish selves. Have someone in mind you’d like to invite? Talk to Jeremy!
Lunch and Learn
Join us throughout the year for a Lunch and Learn. Over a tasty meal, small groups of students will have the opportunity to talk with Stanford’s favorite Jewish professors and community members. With topics ranging from Jewish environmental ethics to Hasidism to the intersection of Judaism and racial identity, there’s sure to be something of interest for every student. Keep an eye on our calendar to learn more about upcoming events.
Friday Talmud Study
Each Friday, meet with a group of students and Professor Charlotte Fonrobert for Talmud study over a delicious Kosher lunch. All are welcome, regardless of previous experience studying Talmud. This is a place for vibrant discussion and Jewish learning. Hope to see you there!
