High Holidays 2023

Celebrate High Holidays 5784 with Hillel@Stanford

Advance registration strongly requested for participation, and will be available in summer 2023.

Hillel at Stanford offers inspiring musical High Holiday services for students, staff, faculty, and community members. The machzor we use is “On Wings of Awe”, which was created for the Hillel movement by Rabbi Richard Levy, and is designed to work for a community that bridges Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, and “just Jewish” Jews.

Our voices and instruments are amplified. We work with a team including two soloists who bring a flavor of classical nusach and Reform-ish chazanut, and  a musical band of students and professional musicians led by Bay Area Jewish music educator Lior Ben Hur. We incorporate Jewish melodies from around the world, including Uganda, Iraq, Israel, Eastern Europe, and a few original melodies.

Services are participatory and rely on student and faculty voices, reflections, and leadership. Weather permitting, our venue is primarily the iconic Bing Concert Hall, a gorgeous outdoor space in the midst of the Stanford campus. Our Stanford Minyan also partners with Chabad at Stanford to host Orthodox services on campus at Old Union.
