IRA Distributions

Making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to Support Hillel at Stanford

For donors age 70½ or older, a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA can be one of the smartest giving strategies available.

What is a QCD?

A QCD allows you to donate up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA to a qualified charity like Hillel at Stanford. Because the funds go straight from your IRA to the charity, the distribution does not count as taxable income.

For donors age 73 or older who must take Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), a QCD can also help you satisfy your RMD while supporting a cause you care deeply about.

Why a QCD Can Be a Smart Strategy

Because a QCD bypasses taxable income, it can:

  • Lower your overall tax burden

  • Maximize the impact of your charitable giving

  • Provide a powerful option even for donors who do not itemize deductions

It is one of the most tax-efficient ways to support the programs, community, and students who depend on Hillel.

How Your QCD Helps Students

A QCD gift ensures that Jewish students at Stanford continue to have:

  • A vibrant, welcoming home away from home

  • Meaningful Jewish learning and leadership opportunities

  • A supportive community where they can celebrate, grow, and thrive

Your generosity sustains the heart of Jewish life on campus.

How to Make a QCD

The process is simple. Instruct your IRA custodian to transfer funds directly from your IRA to our legal entity:
The Center for Campus Jewish Life Inc., DBA Hillel at Stanford
(Note: To qualify as a QCD, the funds must be transferred directly from your IRA to Hillel.)

We always recommend consulting with your financial advisor or tax professional to determine whether a QCD is right for your financial goals.
